Some redness of an incision is normal. If you have any question as to whether it is an infection, it is best to see a doctor in our clinic to best assess whether you need antibiotics or other treatments.
You should not drive for 48H after general anesthetic. After that, as long as you are comfortable sitting, shoulder checking and not taking any narcotic (codeine, tramadol, tramacet, etc) pain killers, you are safe to drive.
You should not return to jobs that require lifting over 10-15Lbs, .for 6 weeks for an open incision or a hernia repair, and 4 weeks for laparoscopic procedures (including laparscopic inguinal hernias). If a job can be modified, or does not require heavy lifting, most people can return to work within 1-2 weeks except for major surgical procedures. Clarify this with your doctor if you have any questions.
